Fiúntas is an entirely Laois based group, comprising members from Spink and Camross Comhaltas branches. Put together by David and Mark Vesey in September 2015, the group comprises David on piano, flute and vocals, Mark on banjo, mandolin, tenor guitar, accordion and percussion, Lily Kettle on fiddle and vocals, her brother Naoise on fiddle, Dara Clooney on uilleann pipes and guitar, Conor Thompson on flute, pipes and bodhran, Caoimhe Lowry on concertina, whistle and vocals, and Molly Donnery on harp and lead vocals. All of their arrangements are done by the band themselves.
Fiúntas competed in the Siansa Gael Linn competition in 2016 and qualified for the final in the National Concert Hall in Dublin. This event was broadcast live on RnaG and later featured in a TG4 documentary. It can be viewed on YouTube at https://youtu.be/G3tgpVYFukY. They have just qualified for the Siansa 2017 final, and will be performing on 2 April
Since then, Fiúntas have gone on to perform at various events around the country, supporting the internationally acclaimed Goitse in the Spirit Store, Dundalk and Cúig in the Dunamaise Arts Centre, Portlaoise. They performed at Fleadh Cheoil Na hÉireann, Ennis, 2016 on the main stage and gave a live broadcast from the National Ploughing Championships on RnaG. They have also performed at the Fisherstown Trad Festival, Sheeran’s Coolrain,The Square Portlaoise, Leinster Fleadh, Kilkenny and Brú Ború. They have worked with renowned musicians such as Áine McGeeney from Goitse, Martin Tourish from Altan, and members of the Kilfenora Ceili Band.
