First on stage for this special evening of Irish music is Award winning Eleanor McEvoy, one of Ireland’s most accomplished contemporary singer/songwriters.
Best known for her songs Sophie, Harbour, The Secret of Living, and of course Only A Woman’s Heart, Eleanor will be performing songs from her latest album “Naked… Live” as well as others from her vast repertoire.
“..once Eleanor McEvoy launched into her fiery set, accompanied by nothing more than her guitar, fiddle and glass-shattering vocal cords, we knew we were in for a fearsome night of music…A lone performer plying a singular trade with considerable élan.” – Siobhan Long, Irish Times
Eleanor graduated from Trinity with an Honors Degree in music, and spent four months busking in New York City. In 1988, she was accepted into the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra where she spent four years before leaving to concentrate on songwriting.
Following on from Eleanor’s performance we’re thrilled to present Usher’s Island.
The five names in this band read like a nominations list for an Irish traditional music hall of fame; Andy Irvine (Sweeney’s Men, Planxty, LAPD, Patrick Street, Mozaik), Dónal Lunny (Bothy Band, Planxty, Moving Hearts, LAPD, Mozaik), Paddy Glackin (Bothy Band, LAPD), Michael McGoldrick (Lunasa, Capercaillie) and John Doyle (Solas).
Dónal Lunny, Andy Irvine and Paddy Glackin link the band’s heritage back to the glory days of Planxty and The Bothy Band while two of today’s leading heirs to these pioneers – signature guitarist John Doyle and virtuoso flautist Mike McGoldrick – bring their experience of Celtic and other international roots styles to the mix. Each is a talented soloist in their own right, but in this new band they offer a blend of old and young and of vocal and instrumental talents that results in exceptional music. This is an evening of super talents combined not to be missed.
